Flor de Pingus - Dominio de Pingus 2002
Dominio de Pingus is a Spanish winery located in Quintanilla de Onésimo in the province of Valladolid, with vineyards in La Horra of the Ribera del Duero region. The estate's flagship wine, Pingus, is considered a "cult wine". Dominio de Pingus was founded in 1995 by Danish winemaker Peter Sisseck . Planted with very old Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) vines, the vineyard is 2.5 hectares in Barrosso with vines over 65 years old, and 1.5 hectares in San Cristobal with vines over 70 years old. Since 2000, viticulture has been certified biodynamic .
Flor de Pingus is Dominio de Pingus' second wine and is made entirely with Tempranillo from leased vineyards in the La Horra area, with vines over 35 years old. The 2002 vintage was a special year in Spain. The winter was very cold and dry, drying out the vines. This resulted in poor vine growth especially in the Tempranillos. Bad frosts in April also caused damage and only late spring and early summer rains brought some relief. By harvest time, yields had recovered to some degree, but ripening was hit or miss, with some grapes ripening more fully than others. Some rain fell during the harvest, which caused a touch of rot, but careful harvesting allowed the healthiest grapes to be sorted.
Varietal: Tinto Fino (Tempranillo)
