Château PAVIE 1994
Château Pavie is located in Saint-Emilion , on the right bank of the Bordeaux wine region. Originally named Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the Saint-Émilion wine classification of 1955, it was promoted to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status during the 2012 revision and renewed in 2022. Gérard Perse bought Pavie in 1998 and implemented significant improvements to the vineyards and winery. Many vines were replanted and Michel Rolland was hired as consultant oenologist. In 2013, Château Pavie was completely renovated, with a large terrace area and works supervised by the Parisian architect and decorator Alberto Pinto. Today, Château Pavie owns 37 hectares of vines located on an exceptional terroir. The estate's vineyards have a coveted position, taking advantage of both the limestone rock of the plateau and the southern slope which drains excess water and enjoys excellent sun exposure.
Château Pavie is a predominantly Merlot blend, supplemented with Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Depending on the vintage, aging lasts from 18 to 32 months, in barrels of which 70 to 100% are new. The 1994 vintage in Bordeaux had a wet April, but the spring was ideal and led to early flowering. The summer was hot and sunny until a deluge hit on September 7, and continuing through the rest of the month, but conditions were too cool to encourage rot. Careful grape selection was crucial to avoid overly dilute berries.
