Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe - Piedlong 2021
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape , in the Southern Rhône . The estate was created by Hippolyte Burnier and marketed its first wine in 1900. The Brunier family also produces wine under the Massaya label in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. It has grown to become one of the largest owners in Châteauneuf-du-Pape with nearly 100 hectares. The estate's vines (60 years old on average) are planted on the famous Plateau de La Crau, a renowned wine-growing site in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Sustainable viticulture is practiced throughout the property.
Piedlong is a blend of Grenache Noir (90%) whose vine is approximately 70 years old and Mourvèdre (10%) whose vine is approximately 50 years old. The harvest is manual with double sorting in the vineyard, followed by a third sorting in the cellar. The grapes are lightly crushed and destemming is selective. Fermentation is traditional, lasting at least 30 days in concrete and wooden vats. The wine is aged for 20 to 22 months in 60 hectoliter French oak tuns . It is marketed at 2 years.
