The Gaja family settled in Piedmont in the middle of the 17th century. In 1859, Giovanni Gaja started producing Barbaresco and since then 5 generations have succeeded him. Angelo senior, Giovanni's son, represents the second generation. He is ambitious and demanding. He marries Clotilde Rey and sets out to find new production methods to boost the quality of his wines. His son Giovanni Gaja takes over and devotes himself to the production of Barbaresco. Its wines very quickly become the benchmark of the appellation. In addition, he expands the estate by adding various great vintages such as Sori Tildin, Costa Russi, Sori San Lorenzo and Darmagi while continuing to work on improving quality. In the sixties, Angelo Gaja (the fourth generation) continued the work of his father and decided to use only the grapes from his own vineyards for his wines. Angelo has made great efforts to promote the Barbaresco abroad. His wife Lucia and their children Gaia and Rossana are involved in the family business. They all live in Barbaresco.
