From the Taravo Valley, in southern Corsica, Jean-Charles Abbatucci, descendant of a family that marked the history of the Ile de Beauté, preserves the cultural heritage of Corsica. In the 1960s, Antoine Abbatucci became aware of the danger lurking on the island, seeing life and culture disappear in the mountain villages over the years. He then decided to take cuttings from the various plots of threatened vineyards and plant 18 varieties of varieties on a single plot, installed on an arena of granite slopes: the varieties for whites (Bianco gentile, Barbarossa, Biancone, Brustiano , Carcajolo Bianco, Genovese, Paga Debbiti, Rossola Brandinca, Rossola Bianca, Riminese) and the varieties for reds (Aleatico, Carcajolo Nera, Minustello, Morescola, Morescono, Montanaccia).
Jean-Charles Abbatucci then took over. He has been managing the entire family estate for years, which now covers 18 hectares of vineyards. The estate benefits from an exceptional microclimate where three natural springs flow. The entirety of the vineyards is conducted in organic farming and biodynamics which allows to reveal with force all the identity expression of this terroir of granite slopes.
In the cellar, healthy and balanced grapes arrive at the cellar. Fermentations are made in native yeasts. All the care carried out on the vineyard is repeated here in the cellar, intervening as little as possible in order to keep the original character of the terroir.
Two indigenous varieties are assembled in the elaboration of this Faustine cuvée: the Sciacarello and the Nielluccio. Harvested in over-maturity and with microscopic yields, these two varieties complement each other wonderfully to deliver a cuvée of a silky concentration that extends in the mouth with delicacy and length. This wine can be drunk now or left in the cellar for 6-8 years.
