From 1810, we find the name of Petrus in the cadastral survey. At the time, the cru only counted a few hectares. The myth begins around 1945 with its former owner Madame Loubat, who understands that on this cold terroir, you have to harvest later, to have optimal maturity.
The wines then progress in a spectacular fashion, and Merlot on the cake, the presence of Pétrus and its owner at the coronation of Elizabeth of England consecrates this Pomerol across the Channel. Thanks to the purchase of 5 ha from Gazin in the 1960s, Pétrus has 11.5 ha exceptionally located on a swelling black clay buttonhole resting on a bed of iron filth, in the center of the plateau.
In 1964, the arrival of a young oenologist, Jean-Claude Berrouet, supported to its fair value by the Moueix family, enabled the cru to really assert itself on the world stage. In 2008, his son Olivier succeeded him successfully. It takes at least twenty years to fully appreciate this mythical vintage.
