Château d'Yquem is one of the most popular sweet wines in the world. If the domain extends over 113 hectares of vines, the vineyard in production spans about 100 hectares, benefiting from hot and dry surface soils with large gravel. Clay soils make it possible to build up good water reserves. The aging of this wine is carried out in barrels for 20 months (with 15 rackings and a light fining). Château d'Yquem 2015 is made from a blend of 75% Sémillon and 25% Sauvignon Blanc.
At Château d'Yquem, the 2015 vintage was marked by a cool winter and a fairly warm spring. This heat is prolonged during flowering which takes place optimally. Summer then sets in and June and July are among the ten hottest on the property. Good rains fell in mid-June and made it possible to build up substantial water reserves to face the summer. In August, a few rains between the heat and the good weather give the berries a nice and slow maturation until the harvest. The harvest took place from September 3 to October 21, with a very good development of Botrytis thanks to light rains.
Château d'Yquem 2015 develops a precise, complex and exuberant bouquet on the nose, revealing a nice minerality. On the palate, the wine is incredibly balanced, pure and with a super botrytised fruit. This 2015 Château d'Yquem reveals exceptional acidity and tension. The acidity and sugar levels are both close to the property's records, which contributes to making Yquem 2015 an exceptional vintage in the continuity of the legendary 2001 and 2009.
