RUM of Barbados - HABITATION VELIER - Mount Gay 9 years old - Last Ward 2009 - 59%
Habitation Velier is a project born from the will of Luca Gargano, probably the greatest rum specialist in this world. Luca Gargano comes from a large Italian family, known for the quality of his goods, a family of explorers who aims a qualitative rather than lucrative distribution. For each distilleries, the aim is to highlight the best distillers from their Pure Single rums, each time with an original project signed by Habitation Velier to produce a world first for each unique signature distillery.
Mount Gay is one of the oldest distilleries in the world, its distillery business dating back to 1703, then called Mount Gilboa (Barbados). It owes its current name to Nicolas Sir John Gay Alleyne who was the director and a devout devotee, so much so that in 1852, at his death, the distillery is renamed Mount Gay. In 1855, a first column Savalle is installed and in total, 3 still pot stills copper signed McMillian & Co enrich the cellars of the distillery in the late nineteenth century, finally, in 1976, it is equipped with a new continuous column Coffey steel to make its blended rum. Since 1942, the distillery markets its rum under the name of the company Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd. (the law requiring a small assembly) which became the property of Rémy-Cointreau in 1989 while the Ward family has remained the owner of the distillery itself since its acquisition in 1918. But the story ends well since the distillery continues to operate in conjunction with its marketing company Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd. nowadays.
This rum Mount Gay 9 years Last Ward 2009 is therefore one of the finds that Habitation Velier has bottled for our greatest pleasure. It was first triple distilled still pot still before being aged 9 years in barrels of ex-Bourbon.
