DOMAINE DE TREVALLON - Organic 2017
A few steps from Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, on the northern slope of the Alpilles is the Domaine de Trévallon, in the town of Saint-Etienne-du-Grès.
Here, limestone surfaces everywhere… It is omnipresent and shapes this harsh and dry land. Around the old farmhouse, the vineyard extends in this living and preserved nature over 17 hectares. Eloi Dürrbach planted the first vines in the Alpilles in 1973. 15 ha of reds made up in equal parts of cabernet sauvignon and syrah and 2 ha of whites made up mainly of marsanne and roussane. The adventure of Trévallon, Floriane and Eloi Dürrbach have led it together for over 30 years! Him in the vineyards and in the cellar, Floriane by his side at the estate. Then the evidence, the particular link to this land, to this history, push Ostiane and Antoine to work on the estate.
Cabernet Sauvignon existed in Provence before phylloxera. Blended with Syrah, it could give excellent wines. The two grape varieties associated with the limestone terroir of the Domaine give the unique style of Trévallon.
The new Trévallon labels were released for the vintage 96. They are the work of René Dürrbach, Eloi's father, who died in 1999 at the age of 89. Painter and sculptor, he was the friend of many painters including Albert Gleizes, pioneer of cubism, Fernand Léger, Robert Delaunay and Pablo Picasso. "I gave him 50 posters and he began to draw on them, according to his inspiration with colored pencils. Each year, we choose a label whose design corresponds to the characteristics of the vintage ". In the folds of the secret valleys of the garrigues of Trévallon, there were old olive groves, vestiges of a peasant tradition attached to one of the oldest fruits which has always nourished men. Traditional vinification, in Burgundy barrels of which 20% new.
