CATENA ZAPATA - Malbec 2016
Established at the foot of the Andes Cordillera since 1902, Nicolas Catena's Bodega Catena Zapata continues the tradition of great Argentinian wines in the Mendoza region, helped by the best quality of the country's terroir.
Three separate vineyards are spread over 200 hectares, cultivated at an average altitude of 1000 meters. The king grape here is Malbec, but Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and other local grape varieties such as Torrontes also perform wonderfully there.
Jorge Catena gave a new impetus in the 70s to the wines of Catena Zapata by modernizing the production tools and above all by matching the grape varieties with the different types of soil in order to reveal as finely as possible the identity of the terroir. Since 1975, José Galante, with a long experience, especially in France, has masterfully led the vinifications to constantly advance the wines of the most famous Argentinian Bodega, often honored by the greatest tasters such as than Robert Parker.
Catena Zapata wines can be presented under 3 distinct ranges:
- Alamos: for fruit wines, full of indulgence, faithful representatives of the incarnate grape variety
- Catena Zapata or Alta: intended for wines that faithfully represent all the identity and all the qualities of the Bodega's terroirs in concentrated, expressive, complex wines.
These wines come from a selection of the best plots of the estate and produced only in the best vintages for the Alta range.
