Marie Thérèse Chappaz - Noble grain - Marsanne Blanche 2016
One thing is certain: Marie-Thérèse Chappaz, emblematic Valais winegrower in Fully, Switzerland, is not prone to vertigo. And that's good. Because to preserve and cultivate the small vineyard terraces with vertiginous slopes only accessible by a monorail, you have to have a strong heart. On a snowy and pale December day, while the monorail nacelle rises in the void, jumping along the hillside, from 450 to 600 m above sea level, Marie-Thérèse Chappaz, sparkling blue eyes, blond braid and cheeks rosies by the biting cold, proudly presents its heritage and its stronghold.
In 2018, it celebrated its thirtieth vintage. A graduate of the Swiss oenology school in Changins, where she worked for six years, she patiently reconstituted, plot after plot, the fragmented vineyard of her great-uncle. The Liaudisaz cellar has 8.5 ha of very fragmented vines, 5.5 of which are on this famous hill overlooking the upper Rhône valley. The place, sheltered from the wind, is protected by the alpine chains: opposite, spread out the massifs of Grand-Saint-Bernard and Aiguilles Rouges de Chamonix; to the left, in the background, looms the famous Bietschhorn. Fully enjoys an almost southern climate, with strong sunshine. The oldest vines, beautiful gnarled vines, roll up towards the sky, depending on the size of the Valais "corkscrew".
Superb color on pale yellow with blue reflections.
Very fruity nose, candied white fruits dominate this gourmet but fresh aromatic.
The palate is exactly what we expect from the nose, richness, smoothness while flexibility for a very exotic finish: crunchy to perfection!
