The Joh. Jos. Prüm Estate is located in the Middle Moselle Valley, around the 50th latitude, one of the most northern wine-growing areas in the world. The main consequence of this location is a very long growing period - sometimes until December, with a relatively cold climate which allows the Riesling to develop intense fruity, floral and herbal aromas, to maintain a high acidity and to absorb the minerality of the slate soils.
The Joh. Jos. Prüm Estate now has 20 hectares of vines. Only Riesling, mainly old grafted vines.
In the 19th century, the Prüm estate already had a very good reputation until the death of Matthias, the last manager of the family estate. The vineyard was thus divided in 7. It was in 1911 that Johann Josef Prüm, one of Matthias' sons, bought the plots of one of his brothers and created the Joh. Jos. Prüm Estate.
In 1969, Manfred Prüm, grandson of Johann Josef, took over from his father Sebastian. It thus continues the family's tradition of excellence.
To date, Manfred is accompanied by his daughter Katherina Prüm in the development of the estate whose wines are known for their aging capacity, their freshness and the complex and expressive character.
Joh. Jos. Prüm is part of the VDP. Die Prädikatweingüter, the prestigious association of the best winemakers in Germany.
