The Gerin family has been established in the heart of the Côte-Rôtie vineyard, in the village of Ampuis, for 6 generations. This vineyard, located 30km south of Lyon, is the most northerly appellation of the Rhône Valley and also one of the smallest, as it only covers around 280 hectares.
The Jean-Michel Gerin Estate was created in 1983, it is a purchase of a plot in Côte-Rôtie which symbolises this creation. Subsequently it was in 1987 that the first bottle was born, thanks to the resumption of the family farm (the vines of Marcel and Alfred Gerin, grandfather and father).
The Côte-Rotie "Les Grandes Places" comes from the place of the same name which covers 1.4 hectares of Syrah vines. The age of the vines is more than 40 years (for 40%) and more than 20 years for the last 60%. The maceration lasts 4 weeks after destemming then the aging lasts 20 months in new oak.
