Domaine de Montcalmes - Le Geai 2017
The Domaine de Montcalmès is located in Languedoc, in the Terrasses du Larzac appellation for its red wines and Coteaux du Languedoc for its whites. The estate covers 22 hectares, in the municipalities of Puéchabon, Aniane, Saint-Jean-de-Fos and Saint-Saturnin-de-Lucian. The Domaine de Montcalmès is managed by Frédéric Pourtalié and his sister, Muriel since 1998. They cultivate Syrah and Grenache vines with an average age of thirty, as well as Mourvèdre. The estate has been conducted in organic farming since 2012, and certified since 2015.
Le Geai 2017 is a blend of Grenache (70%), Syrah (25%) and Mourvèdre (5%) whose average age is around twenty years. The different grape varieties are vinified separately. The harvest is first destemmed and crushed. The vinification is carried out with indigenous yeasts and undergoes a maceration for 30 days. The three grape varieties undergo regular punching down. The aging takes place in oak barrels of first use, second use or more for 24 months. The three grape varieties are then blended one year before bottling.
