Domaine Pierre Vaisse - Le Galibaou du Russe 2017
Domaine Vaïsse is located in Puechabon, in the Terrasses du Larzac in Languedoc. It has been managed by Pierre Vaïsse since 1999, who then owned only two hectares of vines which he had inherited from his parents. He produced his first vintage in 2007. Today his vineyard covers 16 hectares, mainly planted with red grape varieties: 14.5 hectares compared to only 1.5 hectares of Viognier. It was helped by great winemakers: Frédéric Pourtalié from Domaine Montcalmès, Xavier Braujou from Terrasses d'Elise and Laurent Vaillé from La Grange des Pères. He is renowned for maturing his wines for long periods, generally more than 24 months.
Le Galibaou du Russe is a blend of equal parts Mourvèdre and Syrah. Aging lasts 24 months in barrels of one wine or more. The cuvée takes its name from a plot where an oak tree was planted in 1860 by Louis Ravaille whose nickname was "Le Russe".
Grape varieties: 50% Mourvèdre, 50% Syrah
