Bruno Duchêne - La Pascole - Rouge 2019
Domaine Bruno Duchêne is located in Banyuls, on the Côte Vermeille in Roussillon. It was created by Bruno Duchêne in 2002. Before, Bruno Duchêne was a distributor of wild mushrooms in the Loire Valley. He owns 4 hectares spread over 4 plots in Banyuls and Collioure. The vines are cultivated organically, and due to the ideal climate of the region, Bruno does on average only 3 sulfur treatments per year (which is low) and as the odium is not a problem either, the copper is never used. The wines ferment spontaneously in vats, then are racked in barrels for aging.
Bruno Duchêne produces three red wines: La Luna, Pascole and Anodine (Anodine is only available in magnum). Unlike most estates, the three cuvées come from the same terroirs, but Bruno bottles them separately to highlight the different winegrowing practices. All three are made with Grenache Noir, Gris, Blanc with a touch of Carignan.
La Luna comes from organic plots where the grass grows freely.
La Pascole is a single vineyard partially ploughed by hand.
L’Anodine represents the oldest vines in areas that cannot be worked mechanically, and where the tillage must be done entirely by hand (except for a small plot where a horse has room to plough).
Grape varieties: Grenache Noir, Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Carignan
