Gianni Brunelli - Riserva - Brunello di Montalcino 2013
Domaine Gianni Brunelli is located in the commune of Montalcino, in the south of Tuscany. It was founded in 1987 when Gianni Brunelli bought Le Chiuse di Sotto, a small vineyard that had once belonged to his father. In memory of his father, a small plot of vines planted by him in 1947 is still preserved. The property consists of one piece of 5 hectares, of which 2 hectares are cultivated in Sangiovese while the rest is cultivated with olive groves, in organic farming from the beginning. In the mid-1990s, Gianni and Laura, his wife, bought Podernovone. Located on the south-eastern slope of Montalcino, it consists of a 4.5-hectares property planted with Sangiovese (for the production of Brunello) and Merlot (for the production of Amor Costante). The artwork on the wine label is called “Elvira with a Hat”, created by Harvard economist and painter Richard M. Goodwin, who was a frequent guest at Osteria Le Logge and a dear friend of the Brunelli couple.
The Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is made from Sangiovese, grown at an altitude of 500 metres in the Podernovone vineyard. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinification starts at 28°C for 5 to 6 days, maceration lasts 25 to 30 days at 32°C. The wine is aged for 34 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 25 and 30 hectolitres.
Grape variety: 100% Sangiovese
