Château MARTET - Family Reserve 2017
Château Martet is located in the commune of Eynesse, in the Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, 25km from Saint-Emilion in the Bordeaux wine region. He belongs to the de Coninck family . In 1993, Patrick de Coninck, a wine merchant in Brussels, began a heavy program of restructuring the vineyard which ended in 2006: uprooting of grape varieties that were poorly adapted to the soil, uprooting of large vines with too low planting density, vat entirely redone, extension of the barrel cellars… In 1998, he trusted Louis Mitjavile (Château Tertre Roteboeuf, Roc de Cambes) to advise him on both viticulture and oenology. The 33-hectare vineyard is located on the hillsides overlooking the Dordogne and is managed according to the principles of sustainable agriculture , with HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) certification since the 2020 vintage. The flagship grape variety is Merlot since it represents 20 hectares of surface planted with vines. In 2016, Patrick de Coninck passed away and his family decided to pay homage to him by creating the “La Fierté de mon Père” cuvée. Since 2021, Nina Mitjavile is Vineyard Advisor for the property.
The Réserve de Famille is the Château's flagship cuvée, made from 17 hectares of Merlot vines grown on a terroir of clay-limestone ferrous gravel. The wine is aged for 18 months in new barrels from Radoux.
