Julien Altaber - SEXTANT Rouge - Coteaux Bourguignons 2019
Julien Altaber, born in Auvergne, grew up in the Mâconnais in the south of Burgundy. He naturally moved into viticulture at the age of 16 and continued his training in a large trading house in Beaune. In 2002, he harvested alongside Dominique Derain in Saint-Aubin, who finally pushed him in 2007 to buy his first Pinot Noir grapes. Without any equipment, he uses Dominique's infrastructure to make his first cuvée. In 2015, and after an equipment and acquisition phase, he owned half a hectare of vines. All the grapes come from vines cultivated without weedkillers or synthetic products. All the wines are vinified and aged without sulphites with very little intervention.
The Coteaux Bourguignons of Altaber is a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay. The harvest, hand-picked, is partially destemmed. The vatting lasts from 10 to 15 days with 2 to 3 punching downs. The grapes are pressed in a vertical wooden press for fermentation. The wine is aged on lees, in wooden barrels without any new oak.
Grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Gamay
