Domaine de Beaurenard - Rasteau 2019
Domaine de Beaurenard is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley. It has been a family estate for 7 generations, today managed by brothers Daniel and Frédéric Coulon. The vineyard covers 32 hectares in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 25 hectares in Rasteau and 6 hectares in Côtes-du-Rhône. They cultivate the 13 grape varieties authorised for the AOC there, and the average age of the vines is around 45 years. All vineyards are managed in certified organic farming, and also cultivated in certified biodynamics. The grapes, harvested manually at optimum maturity, are taken to the winery in small capacity boxes to prevent crushing of the grains, which would cause oxidation to be detrimental to quality.
The Rasteau is a blend of Grenache (80%), Syrah (17%) and Mourvèdre (3%), grown on a stony clay-limestone soil. The harvest is manual and the berries are sorted in the vineyard. The grapes are co-fermented, the vatting lasts from 18 to 26 days, allowing a delicate extraction. The wine is aged for 12 months in vats and oak casks.
Grape varieties: 80% Grenache, 17% Syrah, 3% Mourvèdre
