Roberto Voerzio - Langhe Nebbiolo 2018
Roberto Voerzio winery is located in La Morra, a village in the heart of the Langhe, in Piemonte Italy. The estate was founded in 1986 when Roberto inherited 5 hectares of his father’s vineyards. Since, he is one of the most acclaimed wine producers of Barolo. Now, the estate covers 8.5 hectares of vineyards around La Morra, with high planting densities producing tiny yields. There are 6 different parcels of in a range of Barolo crus: Brunate, Cerequio, Capalot, La Serra, Pozzo dell'Anunziata and Sarmassa di Barolo, which are all sources for individual cuvées. He also produces some Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto d’Alba and Langhe Nebbiolo.
The Langhe Nebbiolo Di San Francesco is made from Nebbiolo from the city of La Morra, harvested at the end of September. Fermentation takes place in steel vats and aging lasts 12 months in 25 hectolitres barrels (30% of which are new). It is followed by 8 months in steel vats. The 2018 vintage for Piedmont is generally considered to be of very good quality. Despite the hailstorm that damaged some vineyards in Barbaresco, those in the Barolo region (La Morra and Serralunga d´Alba) show excellent ripeness of the grapes, with high acidity, low pH and a balanced concentration of sugar.
