Joseph Cartron - Creme de Cassis de Bourgogne - 19%
Maison Joseph Cartron is located in Nuits-Saint-Georges, in Burgundy. It was created in 1882 by Joseph Cartron as a supplier of Burgundian drinking establishments. The young company distributes the essential lemonades and seltzer water and also manufactures anthology liqueurs such as Sloe, Maraschino, Cacao, Kummel, Ideal Bourguignon and Bisette. But what set this small family business apart from the start was the creation of the crème de cassis Double Crème, called at the time "Double crème de cassis Cartron". Childless, Joseph, the founder, bequeaths his business to his brother Armand who then hands over the reins to his son Henri. Armand, Henri's son, ran the company from 1940 to 1985 and ceased the wholesaler activity (and therefore the manufacture of lemonade) to devote himself to the development of its high added value products. Since July 2011, Judith Cartron has been President of Maison Joseph Cartron, becoming the fifth generation of this line of liqueur distillers and the first woman to lead the company. In July 2021, the GBH group acquired the liquorist Joseph Cartron.
Joseph Cartron products are part of the tradition of Burgundy products: the close and lasting links created with local producers and distillers for several generations have enabled Maison Joseph Cartron to build real partnerships, to acquire an intimate knowledge of the region’s fruit and to work its creations with the most aromatic varieties of fruits, in the respect of the original recipes. Even today, Maison Joseph Cartron buys 70% of its fruit in Burgundy, which allows it to choose the time of harvest itself and to work the fruit at an optimum stage of ripeness.
For creams and liqueurs, the fruits, once harvested at full maturity, are placed in a maceration tank with fine alcohol. The maceration time is defined for each fruit according to its ability to perfectly transfer its fragrance to the alcohol.
