DOMAINE DE TREVALLON - Jeroboam 2019
Domaine Trévallon is located in the town of Saint-Etienne-du-Grès, on the northern slope of the Alpilles in Provence . The property extends over 17 hectares, made up of vines, scrubland, holm oaks, olive and almond trees. In 1950, Jacqueline and René Dürrbach bought the Mas Chabert and in 1960, the adjoining property: Trévallon. Eloi Dürrbach planted the first vines in 1973, and managed the vineyard with Floriane for more than thirty years, until his death in November 2021. The iconic bottle labels are the work of René Dürrbach, Eloi's father , painter and sculptor and friends of many painters, including Pablo Picasso. The vineyard has been certified organic since 2007.
Rouge de Trévallon is a blend of equal parts Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon . The vinification is carried out without destemming, without adding yeast and without sulphur. Maturation lasts 24 months in casks with racking limited to the strict minimum and contact with the lees which nourish the wine throughout this period. The Red tastes well the first year (decanted) after bottling. It will then be necessary to wait at least ten years to appreciate it again.
The 2019 vintage started with a rainy winter. The rain continued until early spring which was quite warm. The heat lasted until the summer which was particularly hot with a peak of 43°C recorded at the end of June. The rains at the beginning of the year and the deep roots in the limestone soils made it possible to have a balanced and fresh vintage despite the heat.
Grapes: 50% Syrah, 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
