KOPKE - Porto - Fine White
Kopke is the oldest House of Porto, founded in 1638 in Portugal . The company was founded by Nicolau Köpke , the consul general of the Hanseatic League (historical association of northern European merchant towns). He ships his first bottles of wine to Northern Europe two years after moving from Hamburg to Portugal. In 1781, the House bought a farm in the Douro, thus changing from wine shipper to producer, focusing more on fortified Port wines.
The Kopke Fine Port range is the result of a blend of young Port wines from different harvests with different levels of maturation (in stainless steel and wood) and a minimum aging of 3 years . This wine is offered in different styles: Tawny, Ruby and White.
Fine White is made from traditional Douro grape varieties (Malvasia Fina, Moscatel Galego, Gouveio, Rabigato…), picked by hand then destemmed and crushed. Short maceration and fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks until the desired level of sweetness is reached. Grape brandy is then added to create the final fortified wine. This wine contains 107 g/L of residual sugar.
