Domaine Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey - Meursault Charmes 1er Cru - Hospices de Beaune - Cuvée Albert Grivault 2004
The Hospices Civiles de Beaune are a former charitable hospice founded in 1443 in the city of Beaune. It is now a modern hospital, with the original buildings serving as a museum. Since 1859, a charity wine auction has raised funds for the hospital, with the wines produced being marketed under the umbrella label of the Hospice. Wines are made at the Hospices cellar from around 60 hectares of vineyards that have been donated to the charity over many decades. The wines are then sent to the merchant-elevator designated by the buyer (who may be a winegrower himself) who ages the wines in barrels and then bottles them.
Monsieur and Madame Grivault gave these vines to the Hospices de Beaune in 1904. This Meursault Premier Cru comes from the Les Charmes Dessus climate of 0.54 hectares. The vines date from 1958 (38%), 1985 (30%) and 1997 (32%). The wine was aged and bottled by Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey .
