Domaine Henri Gouges - Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers 2020
Domaine Henri Gouges is located in the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges , in Burgundy . The estate was founded in 1919 by Henri Gouges and continues to be owned and operated by the Gouges family. He was among the first producers to reject the Burgundian trading system then considered corrupt. Instead, from the 1920s, Henri Gouges devoted himself to bottling at the property, a rare practice at the time. In the 1930s, when Burgundy appellations were first designated, he successfully campaigned against the designation of Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyards as Grands Crus when he was both mayor of the village and a designated member of the INAO. Today, the vineyards of Domaine Henri Gouges cover 14.5 hectares, including plots spread over seven Premier Cru classified sites . Almost all wines are made from Pinot Noir , but a limited amount of white wines are also produced. A Pinot Blanc is produced under the generic name Bourgogne Blanc.
Les Pruliers comes from two plots located on the southern hillside of Nuits-Saint-Georges, blended during vinification for a total area of 1.8 hectares. This Premier Cru extends in the middle of the hill between 240 and 260 meters above sea level, where we find a great complexity of rocks, from flat rock to scree coming from the top of the hill. With vines averaging 50 years old, the Premier Cru Les Pruliers is an intense and full-bodied wine that has good aging potential.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
