Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe - Piedlong - Magnum 2020
The Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe is located in Châteauneuf-du-Pape , in the Southern Rhône . The estate was created by Hippolyte Burnier and marketed its first wine in 1900. The Brunier family also produces wine under the Massaya label in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon. He grew to become one of the largest owners of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with nearly 100 hectares. The estate's vines (60 years on average) are planted on the famous Plateau de La Crau, a renowned wine-growing site in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Sustainable viticulture is practiced throughout the property.
Piedlong is a blend of Grenache Noir (90%) whose vine age is around 70 years and Mourvèdre (10%) whose vine age is around 50 years. The harvest is manual with double sorting in the vineyard, followed by a third sorting in the cellar. The grapes are lightly crushed and the destemming is selective. Fermentation is traditional, it lasts a minimum of 30 days in concrete vats and wooden vats. The wine is aged for 20 to 22 months in French oak barrels of 60 hectoliters. It is marketed at 2 years.
