Tenuta delle Terre Nere - Etna Rosso 2021
Tenuta delle Terre Nere is located in Randazzo, Sicily . The estate has been cultivating vines on the slopes of Etna since 2002. It extends over almost 55 hectares, divided into 24 plots and six crus, with a total area of 27 hectares in production and 7 hectares in aging. All the vineyards of Terre Nere are cultivated in organic farming , and have been since the creation of the winery, with certification since 2010. The vineyards of Terre Nere extend from 600 to 1000 meters above sea level and are planted on steep slopes . The steeper slopes are tightly terraced and must be worked entirely by hand. Many vines are approaching 100 years old and one plot which is over 130 years old was planted before the phylloxera epidemic at the end of the 19th century. Tenuta delle Terre Nere has vineyards in six crus : Calderara Sottana, San Lorenzo, Bocca d'Orzo, Santo Spirito, Guardiola and Feudo di Mezzo.
Etna Rosso is a blend of Nerello Mascalese (98%) and Nerello Cappucio (2%) , made from young vines from all the estate's vineyards. Aging takes place in large French oak barrels (10 to 30 hectolitres) for 12 months , then 1 month in steel vats before bottling.
