Champagne Larmandier Bernier - Land of Virtues 2016
Domaine Larmandier-Bernier is located in Vertus, on the terroirs of the Côte des Blancs in Champagne. The house was founded by Philippe Larmandier and Elisabeth Bernier in 1971, has been managed by Pierre and Sophie Larmandier since 1988, and their son Arthur joined in 2017. Since 1999, biodynamic viticulture has been practiced throughout the estate and indigenous yeasts are used for fermentation. The estate seeks to make wines that express their terroir. The 18-hectare vineyard, with vines 35 years old on average, is certified organic and the Vertus plot is classified as Premier Cru and Cramant, Chouilly and Avize are all classified as Grand Cru . The grape variety grown is mainly Chardonnay with Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. They do not buy grapes from outside because they consider that winemaking could not be the same without complete confidence in the grapes.
Terre de Vertus is a Non Dosé Premier Cru , produced from a plot of Chardonnay . The grapes are delicately pressed and the juices very lightly decanted then directly intoned. Natural alcoholic fermentation and malolactic fermentation start spontaneously in Stockinger barrels and casks . The wines are aged on lees during the first year, without filtration or fining. The bottling takes place at the end of July then the second fermentation and the aging on slats take place for at least 5 additional years . Each bottle is manually disgorged 6 months before marketing.
Grape variety: 100% Chardonnay
