Bodega Numanthia 2017
Bodega Numanthia is located in the region of Toro , Spain . The estate was founded in 1998 by the Eguren family and US-based Spanish wine importer Jorge Ordoñez, when there were only seven estates in the region. It has been owned by LVMH since 2008. Bodega Numanthia's vineyards cover 83 hectares, although the winery sources a total of 200 hectares across the region. The vines are spread over many small plots, on dry soils on either side of the Duero around the town of Toro. Most of the vines are at least 50 years old, with several plots that are even older (up to 200 years old), and sometimes vines. The vineyard is conducted in organic farming , no pesticides are used and the low density of planting makes it possible to avoid irrigation.
Numanthia is made from Tinta de Toro , a clone of the Tempranillo grape variety. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barrels of 225 and 400 liters, with a proportion of new wood.
