Clos des Fées - Old Vines 2019
The Domaine du Clos des Fées is located in the Côtes-du-Roussillon , at the foot of the Pyrenees. It was created by Hervé Bizeul in 1997, to fully live out his passion for wine. From April 1999, his wines were sold en primeur. The vineyard is growing a little, it has 7 hectares in production but only 15,000 bottles due to low yields. Today, the Domaine du Clos des Fées vineyard covers 30 hectares: 27.5 hectares planted in red and 2.5 hectares planted in white. The Domaine is considered the No. 1 in Roussillon .
Vieilles Vignes Rouge is a blend of the oldest vines on the estate (50 to 100 years old): 50% Grenache and Lledoner Pelut, 35% Carignan and 15% Syrah . The grapes are harvested at optimum maturity, sorted in the vineyard and after destemming. A short pre-fermentation cold maceration is carried out in stainless steel vats, with daily punching down and pumping over. The wine is aged without racking for 12 months in 1 and 2 year old barrels , as well as in traditional cement vats .
