Nicolas Joly - Coulée de Serrant 2021
Domaine Nicolas Joly is located in the appellation of Savennières , in the Loire Valley. Nicolas Joly began his career in Finance in the United States and the United Kingdom before returning in 1977 to his home village of Savennières to take care of his parents' vineyard and in 1980 he converted the vineyards to biodynamics and obtained certification in 1985 . Today, the vineyard is managed by Virginie , Nicolas' daughter, and produces grapes from the 7 hectares of Clos de la Coulée de Serrant monopoly , the Domaine's flagship wine. However, following setbacks with the Interloire organization (the organization promoting the Loire), the Coulée de Serrant may no longer appear on the official appellation maps of the Loire Valley.
La Coulée de Serrant 2021 is made from semi-late harvests of Chenin Blanc, vinified dry . The grapes contain around 10% noble rot and are harvested in 3 successive selections, with low yields (around 20 hL/ha). The age of the vines varies between 35 and 80 years. The aging lasts 6 to 8 months in oak barrels , with the proportion of new wood limited to 5%. The wine is aged on lees with stirring.
