Domaine La Grange des Pères 2012
The Domaine de la Grange des Pères is located in Aniane , in Languedoc . It produces small quantities of two of the region's most sought after and expensive wines . The estate was created in 1989 when Laurent Vaillé bought land near the Mas de Daumas Gassac. The land was rich in limestone, boulders and glacial scree and required a great deal of blasting and bulldozer work to produce an ideal terroir. Laurent Vaillé already had an excellent track record, having worked with Coche-Dury at Meursault, Gérard Chave at Hermitage and Eloi Durrbach at Domaine Trévallon in Provence. Organic and biodynamic methods are carried out in the vineyard but without certification . In May 2021, Laurent Vaillé suddenly disappeared, leaving a great void in the world of wine. Since then, his brother Bernard Vaillé has continued to vinify the wines of the Domaine.
La Grange des Pères Rouge is a blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon and Counoise . The use of Cabernet Sauvignon does not allow it to be classified in the AOC Languedoc, so it is under the classification of IGP Pays de l'Hérault. The grape varieties are vinified separately, and aged in barrels of 228 liters for 24 months . The barrels are then assembled, then the wine is put in vats a few months before bottling.
Grapes: Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cabernet Sauvignon, Counoise
