Domaine Henri Gouges - Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets 2021
Domaine Henri Gouges is located in the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges , in Burgundy . The estate was founded in 1919 by Henri Gouges and continues to be owned and operated by the Gouges family. He was among the first producers to reject the Burgundian trading system then considered corrupt. Instead, starting in the 1920s, Henri Gouges devoted himself to bottling at the property, a rare practice at the time. In the 1930s, when Burgundian appellations were first designated, he successfully led a campaign against the designation of the vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges as Grands Crus while he was both mayor of the village and designated member of the INAO. Today, the vineyards of Domaine Henri Gouges cover 14.5 hectares including plots spread over seven sites classified Premier Cru . Almost all wines are made from Pinot Noir , but a limited amount of white wines are also produced.
The Premier Cru Clos des Porrets-Saint-Georges is one of the rare sites where Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are permitted to be grown. It is in fact a small monopoly enclosed within the larger Premier Cru vineyard Les Porrets-Saint-George. The monopoly covers approximately 3.5 hectares.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
