Domaine Henri Gouges - Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains 2021
Domaine Henri Gouges is located in the town of Nuits-Saint-Georges , in Burgundy . The estate was founded in 1919 by Henri Gouges and continues to be owned and operated by the Gouges family. He was among the first producers to reject the Burgundian trading system then considered corrupt. Instead, starting in the 1920s, Henri Gouges devoted himself to bottling at the property, a rare practice at the time. In the 1930s, when Burgundian appellations were first designated, he successfully led a campaign against the designation of the vineyards of Nuits-Saint-Georges as Grands Crus while he was both mayor of the village and designated member of the INAO. Today, the vineyards of Domaine Henri Gouges cover 14.5 hectares including plots spread over seven sites classified Premier Cru . Almost all wines are made from Pinot Noir , but a limited amount of white wines are also produced.
Les Vaucrains is a plot located at the exit of Combe des Vallerots , right in the middle of the hillside and delimited on its upper part by the forest edge. This wine requires a dozen years before tasting, to take advantage of its full potential.
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
