David & Nadia - Grenache 2021
David & Nadia Estate is located at Paardebosch Farm in the Swartland region of South Africa . The estate was created by the couple David and Nadia Sadie , both qualified in viticulture and oenology. They produced their first vintage in 2010 while still working for their former employers. In 2013, David resigned and Nadia joined him in 2016 to devote herself entirely to their vineyard. About half of the grapes they work with come from the farm in Paardebosch where the winery is based, and the rest come from other farms, all in Swartland. They are carrying out three projects: the David & Nadia vintages (grapes used throughout the Swartland representing its soils, vineyards and inhabitants), the Topography vintages (only grapes grown in the Siebritskloof of Paardeberg where they are based) and the Skaliekop and Hoë-Steen. They have an approach of minimal intervention and organic farming in the vineyard and in the cellar. They very quickly became one of the leading wine producers in Swartland , and considered among the most exciting in South Africa .
The 2021 Grenache from the David & Nadia series comes from dry land vines from several Swartland vineyards : a Paardeberg vineyard planted in the early 2000s, another Paardeberg vineyard recently planted on the northeast side of the valley. Langkloof, a vineyard planted in 2016 on Kasteelberg shale and a vineyard from a farm north of Malmesbury with which the couple has worked since 2012. Maceration on skins lasts 4 weeks, retaining 60% whole clusters . One punching down per day is carried out to allow minimal and gentle extraction. After pressing, the wine is aged for 1 year in old neutral French oak barrels of 500 liters and in concrete vats of 2,700 liters .
Grape variety: 100% Grenache
