Château MARTET - Family Reserve 2020
Château Martet is located in the town of Eynesse, in the Sainte-Foy Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, 25km from Saint-Emilion in the Bordeaux wine region. It belongs to the Coninck family . In 1993, Patrick de Coninck, a wine merchant in Brussels, began a heavy program of restructuring the vineyard which ended in 2006: uprooting of grape varieties poorly adapted to the soil, uprooting of large vines with too low planting density, entire vat redone, expansion of the barrel cellars... From 1998, he trusted Louis Mitjavile (Château Tertre Roteboeuf, Roc de Cambes) to advise him in both viticulture and oenology. The 33-hectare vineyard is located on the hillsides overlooking the Dordogne and is managed according to the principles of sustainable agriculture , with HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) certification since the 2020 vintage. The flagship grape variety is Merlot since it represents 20 hectares of the surface planted with vines. In 2016, Patrick de Coninck died and his family decided to pay tribute to him by creating the vintage “La Fierté de mon Père”. Since 2021, Nina Mitjavile has been a winemaker consultant for the property.
The Réserve de Famille is the Château's flagship vintage, made from 17 hectares of Merlot vines grown on a terroir of iron clay and limestone. The wine is aged for 18 months in new barrels from Radoux.
