Agricola Punica - Samas 2022
AgriPunica (Agricola Punica spa) is a Sardinia -based winery, formed as a joint venture between the Sardinian cooperative Cantina di Santadi and Tenuta San Guido , the producer of one of Italy's most famous wines, Sassacaia. It produces two red wines made from Carignano grapes and a single white wine. The company was launched in 2002, after famous Italian winemaker Giacomo Tachis became interested in Sardinia and persuaded Sassacaia winemaker Sebastiano Rosa to buy land there. In collaboration with Cantine Santadi, Rosa purchased two estates, Barrua and Narcao, located in the southwest of the island.
The properties belong to the DOC area of Carignano del Sulcis. However, the wines are made under the Isola dei Nuraghi IGT to give more options when it comes to blending.
Samas is a blend of Vermentino (80%) and Chardonnay (20%) . The grapes are pressed in whole clusters and transferred to cold inert conditions. The controlled fermentation at 16°C is extended by keeping the wine on its lees for 40 days , with stirring. The wine from each grape variety is aged in stainless steel vats for 2.5 months . The wines are assembled and aged for 3 months in small concrete vats .
Grape varieties: 80% Vermentino, 20% Chardonnay
