Gianni Brunelli - Rosso di Montalcino 2020
Domaine Gianni Brunelli is located in the town of Montalcino , in southern Tuscany . It was founded in 1987 when Gianni Brunelli purchased Le Chiuse di Sotto, a small vineyard that had once belonged to his father. In memory of his father, a small plot of vines planted by him in 1947 is still preserved. The property consists of a single block of 5 hectares, of which 2 hectares are cultivated in Sangiovese while the rest is cultivated with olive groves, in organic farming since the beginning. In the mid-1990s, Gianni and his wife Laura bought Podernovone. Located on the south-eastern slope of Montalcino, it consists of a 4.5 hectare property planted with Sangiovese (for the production of Brunello) and Merlot (for the production of Amor Costante). The artwork on the wine label is called "Elvira with a Hat," created by Harvard economist and painter Richard M. Goodwin, who was a frequent guest at Osteria Le Logge and a dear friend at Brunelli couple.
Rosso di Montalcino is made from Sangiovese , grown at an altitude of 500 meters in the Podernovone vineyard. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinification begins at 28°C for 5 to 6 days, maceration lasts 18 days. The wine is aged for 10 months in Slavonic oak barrels of 5, 10, 21 and 25 hectoliters.
