Clos Saint Jean - Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red 2013
Clos Saint Jean is located in the famous place called La Crau, in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation area, in the southern Rhône . The estate was founded by Edmund Tacussel in 1905 and began bottling its own wine for commercial sale in 1910, almost two decades before Châteauneuf-du-Pape became an official appellation. Today, Pascal and Vincent Maurel are in charge of operations, closely followed by the 5th generation: Valentin, Hugo and Claire Maurel. The vineyard extends over 47 hectares, the terroir of which is mainly made up of rolled pebbles. Le Clos Saint-Jean practices sustainable agriculture.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Clos Saint Jean is a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Cinsault, Vaccarèse and Muscardin . The harvest is destemmed and vinified in concrete vats for around 35 days with regular releases. The Grenache is aged in concrete vats and the other grape varieties are aged in barrels for 9 months.
