Château FIGEAC 1998
Château Figeac is located in Saint-Emilion , in the Bordeaux wine region. It was classified as Premier Grand Cru Classé B in the 1955 Saint-Émilion classification. In the 18th century, the vineyard was much larger until sections were sold in the 19th century, including those that expanded Cheval Blanc in 1832. The current Château Figeac vineyard is nevertheless among the largest in Saint-Émilion at 40 hectares and the estate covers a total of 54 hectares. There are three gravel outcrops, which explains the unusually high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Today, the estate is managed by Thierry Manoncourt's daughters (Blandine de Brier Manoncourt and Hortense Idoine Manoncourt), along with long-time technical director Frédéric Faye.
The grapes are vinified in a variety of small containers, either open-top conical wooden vats or stainless steel vats, which correspond to specific lots in the vineyard. The Grand Vin is aged entirely in new oak barrels.
Grape varieties: 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 30% Merlot
