Domaine Alain Voge - The Old Vines - Cornas 2015
Domaine Alain Voge is located in Cornas, in the Northern Rhône . Alain Voge took over the family vineyards in the 1960s and began to develop the estate's reputation by focusing on artisanal know-how and striving to get the best out of its terroir. From the early years, he focused on the Cornas and Saint-Péray appellations; in 1987, he was the first winemaker to ferment his Saint-Péray in barrels. In 2004, Albéric Mazoyer became associate director of Domaine Alain Voge. In 2011, Claude Bourguignon (soil microbiologist) carried out a study of the estate's soils and a hierarchical characterization of the terroirs. A year later, Lionel Fraisse arrived at the estate – he took over full management in 2018 following the retirement of Albéric, and the death of Alain Voge in 2020. The 13-hectare estate has been certified biodynamic since 2016.
Cornas comes from Syrah vines grown on several plots in the localities of Combe, Patou, La Côte, Les Mazards and Chaillot, with vines around sixty years old. After manual harvesting, the majority (80%) of the grapes are destemmed. Fermentation begins with indigenous yeasts and maceration lasts several weeks in stainless steel vats with punching down and pumping over twice a day. The wine is aged for 20 months in 228-litre barrels, 10% of which are new.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
