Pio Cesare - Barbera d'Alba 2022
The Pio Cesare Estate is located in Piedmont , Italy . It was established in 1881 by Cesare Pio, is one of the oldest in the region and one of the first to export its Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate is still run by Cesare Pio's descendants today, the Boffa family . The winery is located in the centre of the town of Alba and built on the ancient Roman walls of the town. The vineyard covers 70 hectares: 31 ,78 hectares in Barolo, 26.90 hectares in Barbaresco and 10.35 hectares between these two regions.
Barbera d'Alba is made from Barbera from family vineyards in the Barolo region (Serralunga d'Alba and Monforte), Barbaresco (Treiso) and Langhe (Sinio and Diano d'Alba). The vinification is carried out in stainless steel tank, with skin contact and maceration lasting about 20-25 days. The wine is aged for about 12 months in large French oak barrels called “ botti ”, and a small proportion in barriques.
