Storm Wines - Vrede - Pinot noir 2022
Storm Wines is located in the Hemel-en-Aarde region of South Africa . After 12 vintages in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley ("Heaven and Earth" in Afrikaans) working intimately with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay , Hannes Storm discovered two small plots with particularly exceptional terroirs . The two vineyards, one in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley and the other in the Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley, were planted in 2008 with Pinot Black. Hemel-en-Aarde benefits from a maritime climate , influenced by the coolness of the Atlantic Ocean, it is considered an exceptional wine region with a cool climate. Small production, careful viticulture, minimal intervention in cellar and a constant nod to the Old World present wines with a distinctive personality and character.
Vrede Pinot Noir comes from a north-east facing slope in the Hemel-en-Aarde valley with a low vigour, stony and clay-rich Bokkeveld schist soil. The wine shows depth, purity and of the structure. Master of Wine Tim Atkin describes Storm Wines as "one of the greatest producers of Pinot Noir in the world."
