Domaine Danjou Banessy - Roboul 2023
Domaine Danjou-Banessy is located in the commune of Espira de l'Agly , north of the city of Perpignan in the Pyrénées Orientales . Benoît Danjou and his brother Sébastien inherited this old vineyard from their grandfather, which was dedicated to the production of Rivesaltes. Today, they work around fifteen hectares of fragmented vines, aged from 15 to 120 years. The vineyard is composed of a wide variety of soils (schist, sandstone, clay-limestone, quartz, pure clay, sand and silt) which requires plot-by-plot work on different islets. Each vintage produced represents a plot, a soil, a place-name, a way of working. Benoît and Sébastien practice biodynamic techniques to enrich the soil and the vineyard is certified in organic farming .
Roboul is a blend of Mourvèdre and Grenache Noir (aged 15 to 30 years), grown on the clay-limestone soils of rolled pebbles on the Terrasses de l'Agly at the place called "Le Roboul". The entire harvest is crushed, then infused and alcoholic fermentation occurs with indigenous yeasts. The aging lasts 12 months in barrels . The wine is bottled by gravity in the lunar phase and is yeast-free, non-acidified, non-chaptalized, non-fined and non-filtered.
