Domaine Alex Moreau - Chassagne Montrachet Red Old Vines 2022
Domaine Alex Moreau (formerly Bernard Moreau) is located in Chassagne-Montrachet , in Burgundy . Alexandre, Bernard Moreau's eldest son, has now taken sole responsibility for managing this iconic property since his younger brother, Benoît, chose to become independent by founding his own estate in 2020, based on the sharing of the family vines. Production is now very limited, because after the sharing of the vines between the two brothers and the end of several major tenancy contracts, Alex now only cultivates 5 hectares of vines, compared to nearly 20 hectares previously. He still favors an organic approach to the vine, having, for a long time already, generalized the plowing of the soil and banned all synthetic inputs. A vision that has also translated, in recent years, into the use of biodynamic preparations .
This Chassagne-Montrachet comes from old Pinot Noir vines with an average age of 55 years. The grapes are grown on a clay-limestone terroir facing south-east. After the manual harvest, fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts and maceration is done gently, with little extraction. The wine is aged in barrels of several wines for 15 months , then 3 months in vats .
Grape variety: 100% Pinot Noir
