Thierry ALLEMAND - Cornas - Chaillot 2017
Domaine Thierry Allemand is located in Cornas , in the northern Rhône Valley. In the 1980s, Thierry Allemand began building his estate by acquiring small, abandoned plots. At the same time, he worked during the day at Domaine Robert Michel and devoted his evenings to assisting Noël Verset. Having no heirs, the latter gave him some of his vineyards upon his retirement, land in good condition that did not require renovation. After working as an electrician for a time, Allemand finally had the capital to start working his own vineyards. Today, Domaine Allemand still covers no more than 5 hectares. The range includes only three wines: the standard Cornas, Les Chaillots, which is made from the estate's young vines, and Reynard, which is made from the older vines.
Vinification at Domaine Thierry Allemand is generally traditional: the grapes are not destemmed and the use of new barrels is limited. The plots are vinified separately in stainless steel and open wooden vats, with punching down by foot. Allemand uses minimal sulfur, and the wines are not racked during their 18- to 24-month aging on lees. Allemand's finished wines are bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Grape variety: 100% Syrah
