Velier was founded in 1947 by Casimiro Chaix in Genoa , Italy . With his partner Arturo Lupi, they created a small, classic wine and spirits import company in 1953, distributing champagne, grappa, tea, and cocoa. In 1983, Gian Luca Gargano , the marketing director of Spirit SpA (the largest import company in Italy), became a shareholder and in 1985, Velier began specializing in importing the finest spirits, particularly for restaurants and wine bars. In 1988, Velier was the first Italian company to import wines from the New World. In 1992, they began selecting barrels of old Single Malts and Rums for their brand, which they developed from 1995.
Velier's "Triple Entente" box set is a limited edition featuring three unaged white rums , each from iconic Caribbean distilleries: Hampden (Jamaica), Neisson (Martinique), and Foursquare (Barbados). This box set is limited to 600 bottles , each bearing its respective distillery's logo and the "Triple Entente" seal.
