The birth of JM rums begins in the midst of lush vegetation where we find one of the most beautiful distillery at the Fonds-Préville house, in Macouba (Martinique). The first distillations took place in 1845 at the initiative of Jean-Marie Martin who therefore affixed his initials "JM" to his rums, thus they are born. In the years 1912, the distillery passed into the hands of Ernest Crassous de Médeuil and his brother Gustave, then in charge of its management and owner of the Bellevue house. Following extensive improvement work, the 2 homes will merge and become the Habitation Fonds-Préville. Today, the Bernard Hayot Group is the majority shareholder of SCA Héritiers Crassous de Médeuil.
Sugar canes are cultivated on the Fonds-Préville estate (225ha) in order to ensure optimum quality of the raw material on a very special terroir: the slopes of Mount Pelée. The fermented juices are distilled in 2 traditional Creole copper columns up to 72 ° (no more) in order to preserve the aromatic authenticity of their sugar cane in their rums and the distillery is fed by spring waters from Mount Pelée. .
JM's vintages are much anticipated bottles every year. Here is the 2008! Aged for nearly 10 years in Bourbon barrels, it was bottled at its natural level at 41.90% (the juices are reduced after distillation just before placing in barrels).
All the bottles displayed in our website are stocked in our cellar in Bordeaux.
