Pingus is the nickname of Peter Sisseck, Danish oenologist who has been living in Spain since 1990. Above all, it has become a name that sounds sweet to the ear of the amateur, because Pingus evokes one of the greatest wines of Spain and the world. Itinerant winegrower, Peter Sisseck studied in Bordeaux, California before settling down in the Ribera del Duero at the Hacienda Monasterio. His love at first sight for the great Castilian terroirs and his flagship grape variety, Tempranillo, materialized in 1995 with the first vintage of Pingus, a wine produced in very small volumes. A happy coincidence makes him meet Robert Parker in Bordeaux who will be captivated by the quality of the wine. The Pingus myth was born.
This cuvée, as rare (6000 btls) as it is expensive, comes from two plots of very old vines (over 80 years old) from Tempranillo located in the Horra sector, of which only the best barrels are retained. Ridiculously low yields (11 hl / ha) and sorting grain by grain explain the exceptional concentration of Pingus, which adds to this power a dimension of finesse and very singular elegance. Pingus has a little brother, Flor de Pingus, who is remarkably intense.
Since 2007, Peter Sisseck has created a high-end wine merchant, through the Psi cuvée, made exclusively from old Tempranillo vines, with the same success. A gifted!
